Guía de ruta

Cerro el Chupón is a easy hiking route in Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. The trail is approximately 4.5 km with about 415 meters of elevation gain and usually takes around 2.5 hours.Trail overviewCerro El Chupón is one of the more popular hikes in Monterrey because it is easy to access, relatively quick, and still gives you a rewarding summit. It is a good option for people who want a real hike without having to dedicate the entire day to it. Even though it is shorter than a lot of bigger routes in the area, it still has enough elevation gain to make it feel like a workout, especially if you push the pace. The route has a mix of flatter approach sections and steeper climbing higher up. It is not an extremely technical hike, but there are loose and narrow sections where you still need to pay attention. Because of that, I would call it more moderate than easy, especially for people who are new to hiking or not used to climbing on dirt and uneven terrain.Route summaryThe hike starts near the park in Villa Sol and quickly transitions onto a dirt path. Early on, there is a relatively flat approach that takes you across a few junctions, so it helps to stay alert and pay attention to the route instead of assuming every trail goes to the summit. After that, the climb becomes more direct and you continue gaining elevation as you work your way toward the upper part of the mountain. Closer to the top, you reach a false summit before the final push to El Chupón itself. From there, you drop a little, climb again, and reach the summit with broad views over Monterrey and the Sierra Madre. It is a satisfying hike because it feels short and efficient, but still gives you a real summit experience.Tips and safetyBring at least 2 liters of water, especially if it is hot. Go early in the morning or later in the afternoon since parts of the route are exposed. Wear shoes with good grip because some sections have loose dirt and steep angles. Do not underestimate the route just because it is shorter. Pay attention at trail splits since there are several side paths and alternate tracks. Be respectful since parts of the area pass near private property and university land. Bring a light snack and a headlamp in case you take longer than expected.
